What makes Jonk conscious and candid? Why should I choose Jonk?
We say it as it is. The world is changing around us and not
always for the better. We face climate change, unfair and harsh work and
trading conditions and unstable political and economical circumstances.
Although we can’t change it all, we want to be part of the change this world
needs. Our items are created with conscious fabrics, ethically and locally made
by a company striving on empowerment, skills development and fair trade.
Jonk is all about responsible consumption and ethical
trading. By purchasing from us you are not only supporting a local business but
a local manufacturer that supplies jobs. It is your responsibility for now
after purchasing to ensure the item has a longer life by passing it on to
be part of a sustainable community.
How can I make a difference in my community?
If you have garments to donate you can contact us on our
webpage donate@jonk.co.za. You can also nominate a charity in need of clothes
and we will add them to our list of designated charities. We are working on
smart and innovative ways to help enable and improve our circular consumption.
The easiest and most eco friendly way is probably for you to pass on the
garments to someone who needs them when you no longer do.

How do I care for my items?
To care for organic and sustainable fabric, wash with cold water and eco-friendly detergents, air drying whenever possible. Be careful when storing to ensure an extended lifespan. Wash less and repair instead of replace.
Some tips:
Washing:
- Wash less: Frequent washing can damage fibers and fade colors. Consider how many times an item has been worn before washing.
- Wash cold: Cold water is gentler on fabrics and reduces energy
consumption. - Use eco-friendly detergents: Choose detergents without harsh
chemicals or fragrances. - Turn clothes inside out: This helps protect colors and decorations
from abrasion during washing. - Gentle cycle: Use a delicate cycle on your washing machine to avoid
damaging the fabric. - Avoid overloading: Overcrowding the machine can lead to excessive wear
and tear. - Microfiber filters: Consider using a laundry bag designed to capture
microfibers during washing to prevent them from entering waterways.
Drying:
- Air dry
- Avoid direct sunlight: Sunlight can fade colors, so dry colored items in a shaded area.
- Low heat in the dryer: If using a dryer, choose a low heat setting and remove items while slightly damp.
Storage:
- Store your clothes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
- Use breathable garment bags for delicate items to protect them from dust and pests.
- Avoid hanging heavy items, as this can stretch them out of shape, rather fold.
- Use cedar blocks or lavender sachets to deter moths naturally.
Other tips:
- Repair instead of replace
- Pre-treat stains with gentle stain removers to avoid harsh scrubbing.
